Send free text messages with SendSMS

Send free text messages with SendSMS

Have you ever wished for a program which could send text messages to your friends, relatives or loved ones from your computer without the need of your mobile phone and at the same time be totally free? Well we have good news! SendSMS will do just that! This new app was designed by MobilioDevelopment to simplify text messaging by allowing Mac users to directly send SMS to all of the major cellphone carriers in the United States of America. So, if you live in America or have friends or family there you can send them texts even when you’re traveling to the other side of the world, you’ll always be able to send text messages absolutely free! If you’re hooked to the internet of course. How does it work? SendSMS has a simple menu and therefor it’s very user-friendly, it consists of two fields, one for the phone number and one for the text you wish to type and send, then you press a button and your SMS will be on it’s way to the recipient and if the message has been successfully sent, you’ll receive a pop-up window confirming it. Simple, isn’t it? The app itself is not big on size and will not make your computer run slow, it’s fast, simple and effective. Each message takes only 3-5 seconds to send and 5-15 if your using a mobile data connection (mobile broadband dongles or the integrated SIM card slot in your Mac) like GPRS / UMTS/ EDGE / HSDPA and even faster than that if your using the new 4g networks (LTE). But since LTE is not supported in every city or country if you are away, wi-fi or 3g will be your choice if  you wish to send a text home without paying a dime. In the screenshot below you can see how simple the app is. Verdict This application is worth it because you can send SMS for free to personal mobile numbers and warn your relatives you’re going to be late, congratulate some one for an accomplishment or birthday, etc. There are only a few downsides: Only mobile carriers in America are supported and you cannot receive replies, you can only send texts. But that must not discourage you because this is a free application and is totally worth it for sending reminders to your employees or family members. In the future this app will probably support more carriers outside the USA and will explore the possibility of receiving messages from mobile phones but since computers do not use mobile networks it would be a bit hard to accomplish but it’s not impossible. It’s truly a very impressive little app since there are not many...

Google maps and Youtube will return to iOS devices

Google maps and Youtube will return to iOS devices

It was not long ago since Apple released the new iOS 6 and the problem is that we all remember this great update with it’s flawed maps app, buggy Siri, no Youtube app and Google maps app to replace the Apple’s “innovative” map application until it was truly finished. But fear not… …Google’s apps are back! Google has released a beta version of its new maps app that will work on all iPhones. Google is still placing the finishing touches on the app and will likely submit the app for approval in iTunes store soon and we do not know how Apple would respond to that, since Google’s new Youtube app has successfully passed and it is available in the store. Now every iPhone owner can download the free app and start watching clips right away. So, what does this mean? It means that Apple has a true competitor for maps services, If they accept the app in iTunes, of course. If not, they will not have a competitor but rather a lot more unhappy users. Apple did not want to comment on the probability of Google maps being accepted in iTunes but we have high hopes that it would become available and a Google representative had this to say: “We believe Google Maps are the most comprehensive, accurate and easy-to-use maps in the world. Our goal is to make Google Maps available to everyone who wants to use it, regardless of device, browser, or operating system.” The new Google maps app for Apple devices is the latest reason to continue the quarrel between the companies, they are always competing in everything – from mobile devices to digital-media. But maps are considered one of the most important element in the mobile industry and the advancement in GPS tracking capabilities of a device. Maps will be available for all future mobile devices which will make people’s lives a lot easier.  So all in all Apple’s attempt to remove Google backfired. Currently their maps app is riddled with false information and addresses even Tim Cook had to apologize  to the fans for the application and unfortunately we will not see a finished one for an undetermined period of time, so for the time being we are excited that Google is back in the party and they are bringing turn-by-turn navigation which will make your phone work exactly like a GPS device, speaking directions, turns and whatnot. A good addition, don’t you think? So all in all it is a win for Google, because now they can offer more services and even advertise more trough their apps. But is that good or bad? We’ll soon find out. Youtube is also returning Just like with the Google maps app, Apple made a mistake removing the preinstalled YouTube app, because now Google is...

Apple October event recap

Apple October event recap

We finally know what new stuff we are going to get from Apple this fall, and most of the rumors were actually true and most of the new additions to the Macs, iPads and iPods are just awesome. So what did Apple unveil?   The iPad mini With it’s 7.85-inch display, small size and low price it truly wasn’t the star of the event.  The iPad mini’s have the same 1024×768 resolution as the iPad 2 but because of it’s size the there are hardly any visible pixels, still it can’t be compared to the Retina display and we did truly hope for a Retina one. The guts are not impressive as well, the iPad mini is using the previous generation A5 chip and because of the lower quality of the display and the older processor they managed to increase the battery life to 10 hours. Well one disappointment for now and our expectations to have iPad 3’s guts were destroyed. But we can’t have everything we want, can we? It is still a great idea and now you can have an iPad in your “pocket” which can make it easier to read books and surf the net on the go.     Mac mini Yes new Mac minis have been released and they are indeed thinner and faster. Currently there are two models a dual-core 2.5 Ghz Intel core i5 and a quad-core 2.3 Intel core i7 one. Both are using USB 3.0’s, the same amount of RAM, the same graphics capabilities and ports but the HDDs are different. The dual-core model has a 500GB HDD, while the quad-core model uses a 1TB HDD. Those are the only changes in the system, but who would complaint about better CPUs?   The new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro The MacBook Pros, unlike the iPad mini, were the star of the event and they are both using the Retina Display and are a true masterpiece. Both have a major overhaul in the display since both have an eye-popping resolution of 2560×1600 native resolution at 227 ppi for the 13-icnh model and 2880×1800 native resolution at 220 ppi for the 15-inch model. So you tell me for a better resolution, better CPU and better GPU will you choose the 13-inch model or the 15-inch one when it costs just $200 more than the 13-inch and you get better everything? Well i guess it depends where you are going to use it. Nevertheless this in our opinion was the biggest surprise and certainly a better addition than the iPad mini. Ok, now here are some specs and before i forget the DVD drive has been removed and replaced by flash capabilities: 13-inch model Intel...

Apple 23-rd of October event

Apple 23-rd of October event

Well we’ve all been waiting for the event on the 23-rd of October and we can’t wait to find out what exactly will be unveiled because Apple has not given us any hints on what exactly we will be seeing but there are some rumors and pricing for products that are not actually ready to ship and stuff they did say would be coming out soon. So what are things we expect to see?   The iPad mini First of all the main “attraction” will be the new iPad mini. With it’s 7.85-inch retina display and because of the $329 starting price it will undoubtedly be the star! The resolution should be the same as the iPad 3’s in the best scenario but probably it will have iPhone 5’s resolution. for it’s guts we speculate that it will share the A6 chip and lets hope that the low price won’t make them cut back on power and put and older chip or less ram in there.  We will know very soon.   Lightning connector iPads Prices for iPad 3s with lightning connector ports and the connector itself, have come up on several sites, eliminating the 30-pin connector from the design and rendering new owners with old cables, well cable-less. Let’s hope we do not see the name iPad 4 on the box, which if it does, will be a kick to the groin when the only changes are the connectors. And if only the connectors have changed the price should stay the same.   Mac mini We should also be seeing updates in the Mac mini lineup and supposedly they will have a RAM upgrade and/or a processor upgrade or an all around performance boost. The pricing will stay in the same range “supposedly” as the current models. Let’s hope we get a USB 3.0 as well because it would be a shame if the device is not up-to-date with current plug-able hardware.   The new 13-inch MacBook Pro The 13-inch MacBook Pro with a Retina Display will be another star of the event. It will look like the 15-inch retina model but it will offer better portability, a new processor options and more storage options. It will start at $1,699 but who wouldn’t want a smaller design MacBook with the gorgeous Retina Display. Well it will not be a better choice if you do have the 15-inch one but for new buyers it will be perfect.   iTunes 11 and iBooks in education iTunes 11 will be announced to and the introduction of iBooks 3.0 is inevitable since Tim Cook is realty fighting to integrate the iPad in the schools and it will not shock us if the iPad mini is just for that. But until the event happens we cannot...

Battle of the app store giants

Battle of the app store giants

Since the dawn of smartphones, app development has flourished and the demand for software publishers grew. Then app stores such as Apple app store, Google play, Amazon app store, Nokia Ovi store and many more came to existence. The first of which was the Apple app store for the iPhone, second one was Google play for Android devices, both came to life in 2008, then Blackberry’s app store and Nokia Ovi store in 2009, Windows marketplace in 2010 and the app store for the iPad in 2011. All of these are very successful in advertising and selling genuine and third-party apps to the public, but without a doubt there are only two champions fighting for the top position. And we all know it’s Apple vs Google. But we will talk about that in a bit. What are app stores? Well there are people who still do not know what an app store is so we’ll explain. App stores are home to all applications for a specific operating system like: Apple app store which offers applications and games for all iDevices such as: iPhone, iPad and iPod; Google play which offers apps and games for Android devices; Amazon app store which even offers e-books to almost all OS’s. There are many more that offer more than just apps, there are stores that offer movies and episodes from your favorite sitcom or show. All you need to do is to find the store, enter it and browse trough all the content available until you find something you like to download. It is simple. Apple vs Google: Why them? Apple and Android devices are the top sellers and it is natural for their stores to be on the top. There are a few factors that determine that. First: Number of devices sold (Google has the lead there); Second: The quantity of the apps available for each (Apple has the lead there); Third: The quality of the apps (Both are even here). So why Android devices have more sales but Apple has more apps sales? Makes no sense right? Well lets see. Android is an open source operating system which means it is unlocked and can be improved, hacked and toyed around with, which sounds very tempting for a programer and Android devices do sell more because of that, but developers stray away from it because being an open source OS apps and games can easily be hacked and pirated so less money for the creator. But on the plus side Android is a friend for third-party app developers who do this just for the fun of creating content which makes people happy. Apple Mac and iOS , on the other hand, are...

Apple iOS 6 maps app: problems and it’s future

Apple iOS 6 maps app: problems and it’s future

So, the iPhone 5 came out on the 21-st of September 2012 packing the new iOS 6 and a lot of people were thrilled about the new features the phone had to offer. Even 60% of Apple owners, who owned other Apple products, made the update to iOS 6 for the new great stuff the OS had to offer, but as soon as they had time to play around with the features and the new maps, they were very displeased. Is it really that bad? Why were they displeased? Because they were blurry, wrong, warped even cities, streets, addresses, monuments and buildings were missing or placed wrong. And yes, that bad! Apple did state that they were ditching Google maps for their own creation but they never gave a warning about the state of the app to the customers nor did they tell Google about it. Fans were shocked to learn that Apple had more or less than a year left on their contract with Google and they still managed to remove the Google maps app from iOS 6 leaving customers without any map substitute while they are working on theirs. Many hackers have tried to port iOS 5 Google maps to iOS 6 but that has proven hard and/or impossible. Now Google are waiting to see where Apple will stand after this fiasco, will they manage to fix it all or will they run to Google again. Oh, and Google are currently in development for a maps app for iOS 6 but we have no further information on the project since it is a somewhat of a secret, because they have to recreate and integrate their maps with Google Earth to create a 3D environment and to make the app use less carrier traffic. Until then iPhone 5 owners and iOS 6 users are stuck with the incomplete experience and getting lost while driving. Because of all this and some minor glitches with Siri, Apple’s stock market value has dropped by 30 billion dollars! Source weknowmemes.com and more screenshots of the iOS 6 maps can be found here. The top six fails can be found here. Source Forbes Apple did apologized recently about the maps issue and this is what they had to say: “To our customers, At Apple, we strive to make world-class products that deliver the best experience possible to our customers. With the launch of our new Maps last week, we fell short on this commitment. We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better. We launched Maps initially with the first version of iOS. As time progressed, we wanted to provide...
